Thought of the day

What's the Word on?

To start this series I thought it best to start at the beginning and the word says, “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

With this in mind we start today as we should start every day with God. What is God? Well there are many answers to this question and if you said Spirit or truth or eternal or omniscient you would be correct but remember that God is love.

What a realization to know God loved us when we were yet sinners. What kind of love is this? What type of love would drive Him to be nailed to a cross and die for the likes of me and you? This is a love the world cannot know. This is supernatural love that surpasses all others.

The English language is unequipped to explain the meaning of the word love however the Greek language is excellent. By using English we can make statements like, “I love my dog. I love my children. I love spaghetti. I love my friend and I love my wife.” All these announcements use the same word love and yet there is a difference between loving one’s dog and loving one’s wife or husband.

To enable us to understand the different “types” of love use will be made of the Greek words and their explanations. There are four words we will examine and the first one is “phileo.” This refers to the love one has towards a friend. It is a conditional love because friends can let you down. The second is “storge” and this is the love you have for your children.

It is  is rooted in the caring and protection of your children. The third type of love is “eros” and it is from this word that we have the English word erotic. It is a sexual love.

The last and best word is “agape” which sacrificial love is. This is the love of God toward man, love that propelled Jesus to die for us on the cross. He who knew no sin died for you and me. When we consider and meditate on scriptures like John 3:16 we begin to understand something of this incredible love. Would you die in someone else’s place so that they could be free?

Praise God that Jesus did just that. The good news is not that He died in our place but rather that He resurrected from the dead so His life could be in us. It is mind-blowing! What a saviour, what a fabulous God we have. Our God dwells within us. No wonder it is written that in Him we live and move and have our being.

Oh that we would realize this and take hold of this priceless truth and allow it to sink deep into us so we can experience the power of His resurrection. In Him we are resurrected and can walk in power and newness of life. We can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens us.

He is worthy of power and glory, praise, thanksgiving and worship. He is the only true God and besides Him there is no other. Come on believers get a hold of this and walk in that powerful resurrection life.

Why not take a moment to thank God for all these things and ask Him to help you through the helper, the Holy Spirit to enable you to understand all He has done for you and to walk in that light? (Truth.)

Philippians 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death

You are more than conquerors. You are successful because the successful one dwells in you. You can do all things through Him who enables you. Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. Yes you are dead and your life is hid in Christ in God where you are seated in heavenly places far above all power and principality, thrones, dominions and kingdoms. You are a child of the living God

God bless you and may you experience the power of His resurrection not only on the day of resurrection but on this day which the Lord has made. Amen

Although this page is entitled "Thought for the day" it is only changed at the end of each month. However for visitors to this site it will obviously be the thought for the day. My prayer is that God will bless His word to you today and every day.
